Coming Together and Connecting: I Can Belong to a Group
Settling into nursery is all about connections: familiar faces, new friendships and finding our place together. We have loved reconnecting with friends and welcoming new faces into our Nursery 2 family, sharing our interests and discovering what makes each of us wonderfully unique!
Our “I can belong to a group” and “I know I am a great learner” phases are at the heart of our learning. Through warm relationships, shared play and familiar routines, we are growing in confidence and discovering that everyone has something special to contribute. Together, we make a wonderful team!

Quite the BUZZ!
We certainly had quite a BUZZ when our wonderful Sid brought in a giant, dormant wasp nest! Our imaginations took flight: “It’s an ants’ nest!” “No, a bee’s hive!” And then… “It might be a whale!”
So many big questions followed! How did Sid get it into nursery? What makes a home a home? And now the wasps have left, who does it belong to?
Our “I use all my senses to engage in Scientific Enquiry” and “I use new words to engage in curious and sustained conversations” as we observed, questioned and shared our theories. Sometimes, the magic isn’t in finding the answers but in wondering together!

Slow and Steady… Time to Delve Deeper!
We have been slowing our routine, reducing transitions and making more room to become absorbed in our learning. After all, there is no need to hurry when the bread is rising, the fruit needs preparing or the washing-up needs a team effort!
In these everyday moments we learn “I can belong to a group” as we take turns, share responsibilities and help one another. By revisiting familiar experiences and trying things for ourselves, we are also nurturing “I know I am a great learner”. Slow and steady gives our learning roots!
Big Feelings, Little Steps
Settling in takes time, patience and lots of love. Alongside new friendships and discoveries, there can be some big feelings too. Through emotion coaching, we notice and name our feelings, listen with empathy and work together to find solutions.
Our “I can express and manage my feelings” phase shines through as we share calm, offer reassurance and learn to navigate tricky moments together.
One little connection, one new discovery, one big feeling at a time — we are building a Nursery 2 family where we feel safe, valued and confident to be ourselves. We belong, we keep trying and we are growing stronger together!
