The Big Adventure!

We have been OUT and ABOUT!

We have been walking in woods and getting stuck in the mud – “slip slop!”

We have been loving our many worlds, our many communities, our many spaces and places – the brilliance of Bristol!

The woods have been giving children unique possibilities to see longer distances, observe the horizon, experience the natural world – the weather, the sounds, the changes in light!

We have been touching textures, listening to the sounds, noticing nature.

We have been running and climbing in the woods.

Navigating and mapping.

We have been energetic, risky, adventurous in our play.

We have been OUT and ABOUT!

Our St. Paul’s Promise “I connect with the wider world” means we are exploring the world with our bodies and responding to nature.

It means we are talking and thinking and reflecting and planning about being OUT and ABOUT!

Fireside Frittatas

We love our fires and we love our firepit.

Wrap up with scarves and hats and gloves.

Put on the wood and light it up.

Feel the heat and smell the smoke.

Toast and bake and heat up and cook!

Have you ever made frittatas on a fire?

Have you ever made pancakes on a fire?

Break the eggs, pour the batter, mix and whisk!

Flip it in the air!

Eat it up. Yum!

We love our fires.

Water Water Everywhere

We do like water.

The shallow, splashy kind.

The slosh it out of buckets

Spray it all around kind.

Our water fountain is flowing now the weather is warmer.

There are lots of buckets to fill, to empty, to carry.

Can you carry a bucket of water?

Do you know how heavy it is?

We have been measuring, weighing, comparing, estimating

“Too heavy… we need help!”, we say.

Our St. Paul’s Promise “I use all my senses to engage in scientific enquiry” helps us “look out” and notice interesting things, to touch, to smell, to taste, to listen, to see the world around us.

We can observe and explore, we can question and test, experience and experiment with materials and objects to “find out”, to explain, to understand.

Making Marks Matters

We can see personalities and preferences, thoughts and feelings, ideas and imagination through the marks children make.

We have been celebrating children’s explorations and experiments with brushes and water, charcoal and paper.

Children’s marks are full of dots and curves, shapes and lines, corners and angles.

We have been using charcoal made on our fire to thin, circular, sharp lines… so textured, so delicate.

We have been using paint brushes and water to make big, dark, thick lines… squelchy, splashy dots.

Our St. Paul’s Promise “I use marks to communicate meaning” helps us think about the big and small marks we make, the way we make them – hard, soft, quick and slow

We are BIG BOLD MOVERS!

“A moving child is a learning child” is one of the sayings we love.

Being in our bodies, out in the world helps us explore, interact, enquire – it helps our self-esteem, our well-being, our health – it makes us feel good about ourselves and secure in the world.

Our St. Paul’s Promise “I am a Big Bold Mover” means we have created movement-rich spaces for children to build and balance, lift and carry, push and pull, run and climb.

There’s real physical challenge, real opportunities to develop core strength in our garden.

Do you know how many children it takes to pull the tyre?

Can you balance along the blocks without falling off?
