Fire Burning Bright!

Rhea is Orange Group keyperson.

But she is also our Resident Artist.

Rhea has been teaching us all about clay.

Rhea LOVES clay!

And in our Fire Pit children from across Nursery 2 have been busy burning pots!

So

Get the fire burning bright and hot

Wrap the pot up with grass or steel wool and foil

Place in fire and stack the wood around

Fire the pot but not too quickly

Cool it down and unwrap the foil

Can you see the marks the fire has made?

Each pot is SO unique!

Have you seen the pots on display at the front of Nursery?

Come along and take a look!

Singing Songs is getting Ready-to-Read

You might know already that Nursery Rhymes help us get ready-to-read.

And ‘action songs’ too!

We love to sing.

We love our Big Circle.

We love our Song Bags!

And we’ve been singing

5 Little Monkeys

Swinging in a tree

Teasing Mr Crocodile

“You can’t catch me!”

“You can’t catch me!”

Along came Mr Crocodile

As quiet as can be

And SNAP went he!

We’ve been singing

5 little speckled frogs

Sat on a speckle log

Eating the most delicious grubs

Yum! Yum!

One jumped into the pool

Where it was nice and cool

Then there were 4 green speckled frogs

Glub! Glub!

Our song bags have been incredible provocations for

Boat Building

Have you ever been on a boat?

Have you ever built a boat?

We have!

Blocks will help you.

Maps will help you.

So will

Oars

Sails

Anchors

Shipmates

But sharks will not help you!

Neither will

Waves – the big ones!

Pirates – the unfriendly ones!

The sun – when its hot!

We have been on a long journey by sea.

And we’ve read lots of maps.

And we’ve read lots of books about pirates.

So if you ever need to

build a boat or read a map

find some treasure or survive a shark

cast an anchor or ride a storm

Then just ask!

We can help!

Messy Material

We love messy material.

Natural materials to manipulate.

If children’s hands are their best research tool… what do we put within their reach?

Gloop and playdough and water and sand have been helping children be scientists and explorers!

And also help children become absorbed, wallowing with their senses, soothing and relaxing and regulating themselves.

Our St. Paul’s Promise says we “use all our senses to engage in scientific enquiry”.

We explore and examine.

We wonder and research.

We ask questions and test ideas.

We explore with our hands and our fingers.

We explore with all our senses.

We

Squeeze

Pour

Push

Pat

Pinch

Mix

Manipulate!

We LOVE messy material.
