We Hammer with One Hammer, One Hammer…!

Did you know that Sorrel is forest-school trained?

She’s been busy leading on our outdoor learning.

Out-and-about in the minibus.

By the fire.

In the garden.

And in our new Woodwork Workshop!

Sorrel has been teaching the children how to use tools safely and effectively.

It’s really important for children to learn to understand and manage risk isn’t it.

Sorrel has been modelling to the children in how to use the hammers, building up their confidence and experience in using tools safely – by starting off with golf tees rather than nails!

Our Curriculum supports children’s Physical Development in controlling and manipulating tools and materials.

And our St. Paul’s Promise supports children to know they are a great learner – full of perseverance, problem-solving and practice!

The children have shown great attention and listening skills as they follow instructions

We have noticed so much concentration and perseverance during these experiences as they explore forces and cause and effect.

Would you like to come and learn with the children in our Woodshop?

Come along and hammer, drill, cut and make with us!

Curiosity, Questions and Creative Play

You might have noticed Maya is having a baby!

This has sparked lots of curious conversation and questions about babies.

The children have asked…

“Can I see your baby?”

“Can your baby hear me?”

This has then led to lots of interest in exploring the dolls caring for them as they feed, dress, wash and read stories to the dolls, making links in their learning and playing with what they know.

Our Curriculum supports children’s complex, imaginative play – helping them express themselves through all sorts of ‘expressive languages’ – painting and drawing, music and movement, drama and role play.

Moving In

Moving from one place to another can bring up all sorts of emotions can’t it?

Some children are getting ready for a big move into Nursery School.

We really want to attune to children’s well-being and learning as they get to know Nursery School.

We have been supporting the children’s transitions into nursery school.

Playing and learning in the classrooms.

Finding out what resources are there, where they live and belong, what opportunities they afford.

Having lunch together in Nursery School.

Spending time in the studio using the loose parts and wooden bricks to support collaborative play.

With the blocks and rainbow triangles, the children made links in their learning through creating a pizza shop asking questions like “what do you want on your pizza?” and “that’s £5 please”!

Our St. Paul’s Promise I can belong and contribute to a group supports children to develop a sense of belonging, sense of connection as they collaborate and cooperate with other children, working to create or imagine together.

Shadow Play, Story Play

Have you seen our new light boxes?

Working with light and dark, shadow and glow is really interesting isn’t it?

The children have been exploring light and dark using the shadow box, finding different ways to explore materials and objects.

Exploring size as they move further away and closer to make their bodies and different objects become smaller and bigger.

We have also been using the shadow box to extend our core story “monkey and me” retelling the story using the props to cast shadows on the wall, creating a puppet show, we are now noticing the children becoming story tellers, as they start to retell the story in their own ways using the shadow box- knowing that stories can be changed and re-told.

Our St. Paul’s Promise supports children to be Ready-to-Read, through lots of different ways of helping them retell stories, using actions, words or phrases familiar to them – here with shadow play!

And our Core Book Approach supports children return to, repeat and rehearse the richness of storybook language, structure and rhythm.
