Gloopy, Runny, Squishy, Slimy!

We are sensory explorers! Children have been using their hands to drip, dribble and scoop gloop. Squish, squash and cut playdough. They have been splashing, pouring and blowing bubbles in the water.
All of these experiences feel different! Cold, slippery, soft, gloopy and runny! So much fun!
We have been collaborating and spending time with our key groups, making the gloop and playdough for everyone to use. We have been following our playdough recipe and mixing water and cornflour to make gloop.
We have been noticing what happens if we add too much or too little of anything. Oops! Too sloppy! Too crumbly! Too dusty!
As we settle into Nursery, sensory experiences allow us to be soothed by the feel of the materials and the opportunities they give to wallow and relax.
Our St Paul’s Promise, I respond to immersive experiences with all my senses, helps us to explore and become immersed and absorbed as we use our hands to explore the world around us!
Ramps, Tubes, Funnels, and Tunnels!

Children have been curious about ramps, tubes, funnels and tunnels as they grow and expand their interest in this provocation.
It is so fun to watch a ball run – watch, wait and wonder!
What will happen when I let go? Will it get to the end? How fast will it travel? Will it get over the bump? Will it fit through that hole?
Children have been repeating, rehearsing and revisiting. Testing out, collaborating and problem-solving as they build ramps for balls and cars using guttering and pipes on our big hill!
We have been exploring how water travels through pipes when we connect them together. Waiting for the water is so exciting! We have made our learning BIGGER and have used an enormous tube to explore how water travels – putting it high in the tree works best! But how do we reach it?…build steps of course! Trickle, whoosh! Watch the water flow!
Our St Pauls Promise, I use all my senses to engage in scientific enquiry, helps us to explore resources, be curious, experiment, test and find out!
We can’t wait to carry on our ramp provocation next term. I wonder where it will take us next?
We Love Paint!

Have you seen our easel in Nursery 2? Have you noticed our painting? Look at our artwork!
Here at St Pauls, our curriculum supports children’s Expressing Art and Design. We talk about and inspire children to be creative thinkers, designers, performers and artists!
We are so interested in where paint can take us in our learning. We can collaborate or be independent. We can be imaginative or decorative. We can make big marks or small.
Children have been experiencing the movement of brushes, the textures of paint, and the different surfaces they can cover!
Paint can be drippy, thick or thin. We can use paint dabbers to dab, drag and splat! We can paint over shapes, on sticks or shiny paper. So many possibilities. So many ways to express ourselves!
Connecting Through Stories

“Can you read me a story?” We love to get cosy with stories in Nursery 2!
Children have been connecting with their adults in Nursery School by sharing books and stories.
Stories can offer comfort, calm, stillness and space to relax and refuel. We snuggle on the sofa and cosy up to our cushions, ready to listen to stories.
Have you read Slinky Malinki? It is one of our favourites!
Our Core Books have also brought us together, by sharing the same book, all children are immersed in the rhythm, rhyme and vocabulary of the story. They can listen, attend, join in and participate in story times. We have used props, actions and created story maps. Check out our Core Book Basket outside our classroom!
We have acted out stories in the garden! Have you ever been on a walk through the jungle? Nursery 2 are experts! They have used their bodies in different ways to crawl, creep, wade and run through the garden and listen out for different animals.
Would you like to come and read us a story? Let us know – we’d love to invite you!
