Cold and Splashing! We Do Love Water!
It’s been so so important to keep cool lately hasn’t it!
And the children have really noticed the effect of the heat on their bodies.
SO SO HOT!
Did you know that this awareness – of how our body “feels” and how we “sense” what is happening to our bodies – is called “interoception”?
We have been exploring with the children how their bodies might be reacting to the heat, feeling hotter and sweating, feeling sleepless and tired, feeling thirsty!
Our St. Paul’s Promise “I can be healthy and make healthy choices” helps children develop a deep sense of their bodies, noticing and talking about physical sensations and changes that occur when hungry, tired and hot.
So off with shoes and splashing in puddles!
Into out Water Park to fill up and carry, to pour out and splash out.

Minibeast Galore!
Have you noticed how many Ladybirds are visiting our garden?
So so many!
We wonder if you can estimate how many you have seen?
Our St. Paul’s Promise “I use all my senses to engage in scientific enquiry” helps us explore nature, helps us explore our garden to find out about trees and plants, insects and birds and animals.

We wonder why so many Ladybirds have visited us this summer?
Did you know that there are over 47 ladybird species in the UK and over 5,000 species across the world!
Did you know that not all ladybirds are red with black spots… they can be yellow, orange, brown or red with black, white or red spots.
Have you seen any Ladybirds with stripes instead of spots?
We have been fascinated, delighted and so so curious about the ladybirds in our garden.

Researchers and Scientists
Have you seen pictures of the Icelandic volcano in erupting?
We have!
We have been researching volcanoes.
Watching videos of how they explode, so full of power and force.
We have talked all about the lava and smoke and clouds of ash.
Watch out it’s all so hot!
Our St. Paul’s Promise “I use all my senses to engage in scientific enquiry” helps us notice, describe and predict changes in materials.
Have you ever made a volcano?
That explodes?
We have!
We have been inspired by our volcano-research.
And have attempted volcanoes in the sand, adding mints to the fizzy drink.
Stand back!
Be careful!
Watch it explode!

Creative Collabortaions
Here at St. Paul’s our Curriculum supports children’s Expressive Art and Design.
We talk about children being
Creative Thinkers
Designers and Makers
Performers and Artists
Here at St. Paul’s we talk about children expressing themselves through their ‘100 languages’.
We are inspired by Loris Malaguzzi from the Reggio Schools in Italy who describes the power and capacity of young children’s thinking and creativity.
He says…
The child
is made of one hundred.
The child has
a hundred languages
a hundred hands
a hundred thoughts
a hundred ways of thinking
of playing, of speaking.
A hundred always a hundred
ways of listening
of marvelling of loving
a hundred joys
for singing and understanding
a hundred worlds
to discover
a hundred worlds
to dream.
The child has a hundred languages
(and a hundred hundred hundred more).
