Shadow Shape Scientists

Curious and questioning…

Exploring and inquisitive…

Noticing and revisiting…

Have you seen our Shadow Play?

Have you noticed how we have made links between the light table and the light casting shadows on the wall?

Such small things change into large things!

Our St. Paul’s Promise says “I use all my senses to engage in scientific enquiry” and we put out in the room novel and interesting things for children to explore and examine, wonder about and research.

We are researching children researching the world!

Digital Literacy

We are using the camera like an eye!

In our Nursery, around our community we are using cameras to capture our interests, our perspectives, things important to us.

Shapes and angles…

Letters and words…

Our own faces!

This digital learning is about our own uniqueness and diversity.

It is about looking carefully and respectfully.

It is about delighting in identity.

It is about being valued and validated.

Being connected and claimed.

It is about finding out.

Big Mark Making – All About Me!

From camera to paper.

The children have been expressing their sense of self, their sense of identity their sense of belonging.

Mark making really matters doesn’t it.

Mark making is sensory and full of exploration.

Mark making is full of cause and effect… what happens if…?

Mark making is so personal and meaningful… my marks say I am here!

The children have been making big marks on the wall as they draw around themselves, draw around each other, draw portraits of themselves.

The children have a strong sense of themselves, a strong sense of each other and of the group.

Our St. Paul’s Promise says “I can belong and contribute to a group” and helps us give children opportunities to enjoy a sense of belonging and contribute to the shared learning experiences.

We Are Mathematicians! We Are Engineers!

Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths is everywhere.

And it is all so creative!

Children have used the blocks as tools for science, tools for maths, tools for engineering.

Block Play has given the children such rich, diverse, endless possibilities.

As they discover shape and space and measure.

Just how tall can this tower of blocks go until it topples over?

Block Play has given children so many opportunities to be absorbed and immersed in their play.

As they get stuck and unstuck!

As they solve problems and try out ideas.

Just how can I make each set of blocks the same height?

Block Play has given children the chance to think about how shapes fit together and tessellate, how they make patterns and different shapes.

As they build towers and models, stacks and ramps.

Just what kind of shape fits here?
