Goldilocks and The Three Bears…

We have been inspired and inspiring story tellers this term. We have been reading ‘Goldilocks and the three Bears’. We have been acting out, retelling, imagining with props, taking on the character of the bears and Goldilocks, joining in with the rhythm of the story. We have been creating story maps too, drawing the story ‘arc’, innovating, and inventing, and thinking mathematically: “Great big, medium sized and teeny tiny”.

Spotting Patterns

COPY, CONTINUE, CREATE! We have been learning about pattern; noticing repeated patterns and having a go at creating our own using ‘loose parts’. This helps us to understand mathematical relationships.

Counting to find out how many …

We have been practising our ‘careful counting’ skills during group times. We have been practising saying number words in sequence and using this knowledge to support careful counting (this is where we tag each object with one word)! We wonder if you can practise this skill at home? Useful tips, putting the objects in a line, start counting from the left to the right, touch each object as you count/say the number. Some children have started to think about composition when exploring the Numicon in the playdough e.g. “I did a 5 and a 2, altogether there is 7!”

Food exploration …

Every Friday The Children’s Kitchen donate food to our centre. We have been exploring, chopping, roasting, eating vegetables. This helps us to be healthy and make healthy choices, develops our self-confidence, and ignites talk.

Book share…

We have started ‘book share’ with your children. They will be bringing home a book bag with a ‘borrow book’ inside. We are encouraging families to read with their children, cuddle up on the sofa/ in bed and begin to create ‘a love for reading’. When you are finished with your borrow book bring it back into nursery and your child’s key person will change their book with them. (see leaflet inside book bag for more information)
