Settling In
We have welcomed new children to EY2.
We have been visiting children in their homes to find out about them, their families and we have started to build relationships, trust and connections.
Home Visits are so brilliantly important aren’t they?
And they’re the start of children and family feeling connections and community.
Children have been remembering and reflecting on seeing their keyworker at their house “you saw my dragons at my house remember?”
Our St Pauls Promise “I can belong and contribute to a group” supports our planning and provision to help children develop a strong sense of belonging and relationship, a secure attachment to people and place.
We are really excited to get know you all at a much deeper level!
As we watch you settle, develop and grow.
It has been lovely to see our well-established children welcome so brilliantly our new children, modelling our daily routine and invite them into their play, growing our community together.
We are feeling really proud of the children at the moment as we move through these changes together, new spaces, new routines, new relationships …
We are including ALL children and their families on our family board… can you find your family on our family board?
Please do email or bring in a family photo if you haven’t yet… it’s a really important way of celebrating your child, your family, your community.
We Love Books!
Have you noticed we have a new Core story ?
In EY2 we have fully embraced how our children are being drawn to books; in all areas of the environment.
Children are exploring books independently, in groups and with adults.
Our Core Story at the moment is Polar Bear, Polar Bear What do you Hear?”
We have been joining in with familiar refrains and sounds, anticipating and predicting what will happen next, building literacy skill and developing absorption.
We have been engaging by selecting a soft toy character from the core story basket and then joining the story telling when we recognise the sound or are able to match the picture.
We know that props such as soft toys or puppets enhance engagement and we have noticed that 2 year olds love to be involved in the magic of story telling.
Our St Pauls Curriculum, ‘Have a Love of Books’ really does come to life in EY2, our seating, cosy cushions and book baskets do open up plenty of opportunities for the children to discover books, whether it’s in our home area, outside or in our Book corner.
We have also visited our library and listened to animal sounds that link to the core story.
Books do really build on our imagination and introduce us to new language and literature don’t they !
Books have helped us to
Be Independent
Be a learner
A researcher
Be resourceful
To explore
To be Rested
To use our imagination
Share and engage with each other
Wallow and immerse
Discover the world and the way books are read

Movement Matters!
We learn with our bodies as well as our minds don’t we!
We have a movement-rich space here that supports all sorts of BIG BOLD MOVEMENT and small intimate, intricate skills.
Our St Paul’s Promise “I know I am a great learner” helps children develop confidence, capability and curiosity in all sorts of learning – even in their bodies!
We have been exploring, practising, rehearsing and returning to all sorts of physical learning.
We have been practicing these skills through cooking, music, mark making and during outside play in the sand and with bats, balls and chalk.

Adventures in Block Play
As you know we LOVE BLOCK PLAY!
Blocks are brilliant!
Our Community Playthings blocks are so beautifully made.
A natural texture of carved wood.
And there has been SO much Block Play both in our Block Area and outside too.
Blocks are so so mathematical aren’t they?
So full of possibilities of shape, space, measure AND imagination!
Our St. Paul’s Curriculum supports mathematical learning in pattern and shape and space and problem-solving.
You will see
