Orange Group in the Woods
This term, the Orange Group have enjoyed exploring the woods, growing in confidence as big, bold movers outdoors. They have climbed fallen trees, stretched through tangled branches and challenged themselves to jump from logs, building physical skills and resilience.
On their woodland walks, the children discovered animal sculptures hidden among the trees, prompting close observation and discussions about animals, habitats and woodland creatures. They also made an exciting discovery of a real hedgehog, using descriptive language, asking thoughtful questions as part of their scientific enquiry and showing empathy as they learned about caring for wildlife.
The children further engaged their senses through creative play with natural clay, squishing, shaping and exploring its texture. This hands-on experience encouraged imagination, sensory exploration and plenty of joyful moments.

Pizza Making in the Kitchen
Nursery 2 children have been getting creative in the kitchen with a fun and tasty pizza-making group time!
The children were fully engaged as they helped to prepare their own pizzas, carefully chopping and slicing a variety of ingredients, building on their fine motor skills and developing strength! They practised sprinkling toppings onto their pizza bases and took great pride in designing their own unique creations.
This experience also encouraged the children to think about making healthy choices for their bodies. We explored how different foods help us grow strong and stay healthy, and the children enjoyed selecting from a colourful range of vegetables including tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, pineapple, and sweetcorn. There were lots of conversations about flavours, textures, and favourite foods — and plenty of excitement about tasting their delicious pizzas once cooked!

Group Games in the Garden
This term, we have been focusing on developing our collaboration and cooperation skills through a range of fun and exciting group games.
Children have loved taking part in familiar favourites such as Jack Frost, Mr Ghost, Mr Fox, and What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?, as well as joining in with our lively dance sessions. These games have created wonderful opportunities for the children to work together, listen carefully, and build confidence as part of a group.
Through these games, the children have been practising how to express and manage their feelings. Taking turns, waiting patiently, and understanding the rules can be challenging at times, but the children have shown growing resilience and understanding. We’ve been celebrating their efforts as they encourage one another, negotiate roles, and cheer their friends on.
Our dance sessions and movement games have also supported the children’s physical development. They have been exploring big, bold movements such as squats, lunges, running, jumping jacks, hopping, and more. These energetic experiences help strengthen their muscles, improve balance, and develop coordination — all while having lots of fun and enjoying being active together.
Welcome to St Pauls Salon
This month, several children proudly arrived with fresh new haircuts — and their excitement inspired us to open our very own class salon!
The children eagerly transformed the role-play area into a busy hair and beauty studio, complete with brushes, bows, mirrors, and pretend makeup. They showed incredible creativity and confidence as they practised blow-dries, styling plaits, adding bows, and creating ponytails for their friends. Our classroom quickly turned into a lively space filled with chatter, laughter, and fabulous new looks!
The salon also created a wonderful opportunity for meaningful conversations about identity and what makes each of us unique. As the children styled one another’s hair and looked closely in the mirror, they began to talk openly about the features they noticed about themselves and their friends.
“My skin is a brown colour, yours is white and pink.”
“My hair is brown like yours!”
“I have Elsa hair!”
These discussions helped the children develop language around similarities and differences, celebrate their individuality, and build positive self-esteem. They spoke with confidence, curiosity, and kindness as they explored what makes them special.
Our class salon has not only been a big hit for imaginative play, but also a rich learning experience full of creativity, communication, and connection.
