We Make Marks

Our St. Paul’s Promise “I can use marks to communicate meaning” supports and encourages children to explore and experiment with marks.

We have made HUGE marks outside with water and BIG painting and decorating brushes.

We have made intricate, powdery marks with charcoal and chalk.

We have painted blocks of colour with paint-sticks and paint-rollers.

And we have use thick pens to draw…

Lines

Circles

Curves

Straight

Wavy

Zigzag

We have drawn ourselves – self-portraits!

We have drawn our families – family-portraits!

We have made patterns with colour.

We have coloured in patterns.

We have been playful artists!

And our marks have been communicating meaning… I wonder what they say?

Claying

We do love clay!

The squelchy, slippy, sloppy kind!

The squeeze between-your-toes kind!

Rhea – our fabulous Clay Artist – has been teaching us about clay.

We have been using Clay tools.

We have been using our bodies as clay tools!

We have been

Squeezing

Stamping

Jumping

With the clay.

We do love clay!

Let’s Get Mixing!

We like to immerse ourselves in the messiness of learning!

We like to use all our senses to wallow in the water and paint.

We mix and pour, empty and fill.

We use fingers and brushes.

We use spoons and spatulas.

We ask ourselves

What colour will this make?

What happens when the dry powder becomes wet?

What puddles can I make when I pour?

Our St. Paul’s Promise “I use all my senses to engage in scientific enquiry” helps support the children to
