We Love Worms!

Have you ever been on a Woodlice Hunt?

Have you ever been on a Spider Safari?

We have been on a Worm Watch!

In our Allotment we have a wormery.

You are welcome to come and look at the worms anytime or use some of their amazing poo to help the plants grow in our Friday Garden Club!

Our St. Paul’s Promise “I use all my senses to engage in scientific enquiry” helps us plan and support children’s curiosity as they explore, examine and wonder about their many worlds.

In Nursery we have used all our Scientific Enquiry skills

Exploring

Examining

Wondering

Researching

Observing

Questioning

Hypothesising

Speculating

We have been looking at them really closely so we can make ‘observational drawings.

We have been handling the worms really carefully so we can use all our senses in our scientific enquiry.

We have been taking care of the worms…

Keeping them in the dark!

Making sure they had layers of damp soil for their home!

Giving them juicy leaves and fruit peel to eat. Yum!

Did you know…

Worms have no arms, legs or eyes?

There are over 2,700 different kinds of worms?

Over a million worms can live in the space the size of a football field?

The largest worm ever found was over 6 metres long!

Wow!

We do love worms!

We are Big Bold Movers

Do you know how to do Yoga?

We do!

Kirsty has been teaching us Yoga!

We are working on being Big Bold Movers!

Experimenting and exploring and enjoying the movement of our bodies.

Our St. Paul’s Promise “I am a Big Bold Mover” helps us support the children to move their bodies with agility, dexterity and suppleness.

Do you know how to do the Cat Pose?

Do you know how to the Pyramid Pose?

Do you know how to do the Tree Pose?

It’s tricky learning!

But we could teach you!

The Power of Pattern – Puzzles and Pictures

Pattern is a defining quality of mathematics… children who expect mathematics “to make sense” look for patterns.

We have been exploring the shapes and patterns in pictures.

Have you ever used the ‘pattern blocks’ or tangrams?

We have been absorbed and immersed in ideas of

Tessellation

Rotation

Symmetry

Children have been experimenting and exploring…

…the similarities and differences of shapes

…how shapes can be made up of or composed of other shapes

…how shapes can fit together.

Our Mathematical Development Curriculum supports children in
• Seeing patterns and making connections
• Applying understanding of shape, space and measure
• Using mathematical reasoning to solve problems
• Talking mathematically

We have been exploring the shapes and patterns in the Workshop –painting, collaging and creating circles from all sorts of materials.

There are all sorts of elaborate circles and concentric patterns in nature and art aren’t there.

We found some drawings and paintings to be inspired by.

We are Ready-to-Read!

We have so enjoyed reading.

We have so enjoyed our Core Books.

We have so enjoyed our Library.

THANK YOU to everyone who has donated books and helped us build up our book collection!

Children have been resting and refuelling through reading!

They have really been experiencing the intimacy of sharing stories…
the physical closeness of a trusted adult, the rhythmic turning of pages…

a safe place to sit and share, to feel claimed and connected…

to feel purposeful and inspired!

Children have been making connections between books and home – “I’ve got this book at home!” – and talking about the characters and illustrations and adventures in the stories.

We have lots of props, puppets, objects and story boxes that have supported children to be inspired and inspiring storytellers!
