Off to the Woods with Green Group

This term Green Group journeyed all the way to the woods! We are learning to be a group outside of Nursery – putting on our hi-vis jackets, walking with our friends and key person, getting on our minibus safely and travelling together to the woods!
We enjoyed the big space to run, getting to the top of the hill. Have you stopped to look at the view at Stoke Park before? We have! We could see such a long way, noticing hills in the distance!
We used our bodies to walk, climb over, climb under, climb on top of logs or fallen trees. We collaborated to lift really long branches!

Have you seen the patterns that nature can show us? Noticed the wiggly, wobbly, scribbly, swirly roots from a fallen tree? So interesting!

Our St Pauls promise, “I connect with the wider world,” encourages us to get “out and about” and appreciate the awe and wonder of nature! We use our noticing skills and our senses to explore what nature has to offer.

At St Pauls we promise to be “Big Bold Movers”, using strength, balance, coordination and resilience to rise to new physical challenges!

Ready, Steady, Go!

Our St Pauls Promise “Know own uniqueness and embrace diversity” has been inspiring lots of our learning this term. We have been exploring similarities and differences within our appearances, families and skills, embracing the diversity of our groups and celebrating ways we are unique! Our groups have been showing interest in different things; body parts, skeletons, movement, siblings and unique skills.

We found out that we have an expert BMX rider in Yellow Group! They showed us a video of them in a pump track race and we were mesmerized! Yellow group noticed the “beep, beep, BEEP” signal to GO and the way our friend picked up SPEED as they went down the hills.

We were keen to “rise to the challenge” and imitate our friend to have a go!

“We need a barrier to start” Lilli was there to hold her arm up and signal “beep beep BEEP”. Yellow group demonstrated their patience and turn taking skills to go one at a time to WHOOSH down the hill, picking up speed and whizzing round corners. We celebrated and supported each other!

We are “Big Bold Movers” – modelling our strength, balance and agility when our bike wobbled, using our coordination as we made our way around the track. Watch out for traffic or obstacles!

Creating in the Cabin

We have been visiting our new ‘Cabin’, switching on our curiosity to find out where blocks and loose parts can take our learning.
We have noticed how interesting it is to place blocks in circles, in a line, rotating, tessellating to see how shapes fit together! We are composing and decomposing shapes, using symmetry and representing spatial relations through our thoughtful placing of blocks.

Our St Pauls Curriculum supports us to ‘Apply understanding of shape space and measure’ when we explore in The Cabin!

Sometimes our structures can fall and we are practicing our ‘stickability’ to have another go or find a new way!

How do Beanstalks Grow?

Through our Core Story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and noticing changes in the garden, we have been wondering “how do things grow?”

Our St Paul’s Promise “Be a scientist, engage in scientific enquire” helps us to go outside, observe in our allotment area, research how plants grow and learn how to take care of our environment.

Have you grown Rhubarb before? Its leafy and long!

Did you know Strawberries start off as flowers? We noticed white flowers and learnt they will change into strawberries!

Our interest in height continues…making our own beanstalk in the tree house, watching the tree surgeons climb a tree to chop it down and imagining how tall Jacks beanstalk would grow!

We planted our own ‘beanstalks’ and have been looking after them to help them grow. We wonder how tall they will grow? When will the peas be ready to eat?
