Diggers, Builders, Fixing and Holes
There’s been an awful lot of diggers and diggers outside Nursery hasn’t there!
We have been fascinated with the machines.
And how they move and are operated.
What DO all those levers, switches, sticks and arms do?
Children have been out on the street peering into holes and noticing the pipes coming out of the concrete.
And watching how the diggers have made holes, dug up concrete and fixed and replaced pipes.
Children have been watching closely the tracks and turns, the digging and craning, lifting and pulling.
We love to be out in the world!
Our St. Paul’s Promise “I connect with the wider world” supports children to visit and revisit familiar places, to notice, comment and talk about what they see.
We have all sorts of books on machines and diggers too.
And these stories and non-fiction books help children “dig deeper” into facts about the world, and help children make links between different parts of their learning.
We have a saying that “the curriculum is inside the child and outside the window” – it’s so important for children to have the richness and novelty that can exist in the world just outside the window!
C’mon! Let’s go outside!

Moo! Baa! Cluck! Bleat! Cluck!
At the farm there’s a lot to see.
AND listen to!
Our St. Paul’s Promise “I am Ready-to-Read…” supports children to tune in their ears!
Tuning into and talking about the different sounds children hear is an important part of getting ready to read.
Songs and rhymes
Music and story
Babbling and peek-a-boo
Are all part of tuning in our ears to sound – tuning in to listen and attend
At the farm we explored and talked
And listened carefully to the animals.
Did you hear
The cow moo?
Was it a real cow sound?
Did you hear the goat bleat?
Or the sheep baa?
Did you hear the chicken cluck?
Or even the Guinea Pigs chut?
(When a guinea pig is chutting then it’s happy and content!)
Did you hear the tractor BRRRRMMMM?
The children made that sound!
Being playful with the sounds we make, listening carefully to the sounds all around is SO helpful in getting ready-to-read.
And we read all sorts of books with children – books full of rhythm, rhyme, alliteration and nonsense words and sounds.
So children can playfully explore, experiment and enjoy all sorts of sounds.
Come on in and look at our library of sound books!

Windy Weather
Oh!
We do love wind!
Gusty, blustery wind!
Out with the streamers and scarves, paper kites and sheets of paper.
But wait!
We have to wait!
And catch the wind!
Run down the hill we think… that will help!
Our St. Paul’s Promise “I am a Big Bold Mover” supports children to wallow and pay attention to sensations and feelings.
Being a Big Bold Mover is not only about boing-ing and bouncing, whooshing and running, pushing and pulling.
But being a Big Bold Mover is also about stopping and starting, changing direction, showing stamina and suppleness.
Children had to show agility and control as they moved their arms and bodies to capture the wind.
Sometimes running across the path.
Sometimes gently lifting an arm.
Sometimes twisting a wrist.
The children had to explore and experiment to capture the wind!

Eid Mubarak
We have loved inviting children and families, practitioners and staff to share their Eid stories and celebrations with us all.
It was wonderful to share food and prayer and decorations and presents.
Children showed off their special Eid clothes and showed us how they pray.
We made chocolate dates too – yum!
This is a traditional way of breaking the fast ( Iftah ) – dates giving an immediate energy boost!
And made Eid decorations too.
Rayan talked about her family celebrations, showed us photographs and talked about the call to break fast, the call to prayer and how she prays with the prayer mat.
Our St. Paul’s Promise “I know my own uniqueness and embrace diversity” supports children to have a sense of belonging and explore different languages, cultures and communities.
We have been spending a lot of time together as a team reflecting on Equalities – particularly Race Equality.
We really want children and families to shape our provision, shape how we celebrate together – to invite personal histories, family stories about how you celebrate your culture, celebrate important events in your life, your family, your year.
Come and talk to us about you, your family, language, culture and history.
We are keen to learn more and journey together!
