Block Play Research – Creativity and Early Maths
“If children’s hands are their research tool… then what do we put within their reach?”
Our Block Research in Nursery continues with creativity and energy.
Children are exploring all sorts of science, technology, engineering and mathematics… as well as unique creativity. We have been particularly interested in pattern, symmetry… in shadows… and representing what we see in books (making models of famous buildings like Notre Dame!).
We are also working closely with Bristol University and reflecting on our learning with the Early Childhood Maths Group.

Lucy has recorded a session for you to explain EMOTION COACHING
This is a strategy we use at nursery to help young children learn to self-regulate, feel safe, be confident.
It’s a way of responding to children’s outbursts of strong emotions, which sometimes presents as challenging behaviour,
whilst recognising that all behaviour is communication.
Using an Emotion Coaching response, we empathise and acknowledge feelings but also support children with high guidance to develop the skills they need to regulate themselves and navigate life.
